The Terrace at Three Smiths Square is managed by the Helsinki Co-operative Society Elanto (HOK-Elanto). The Co-operative Society wanted the renewed terrace to develop the concept of urban greening and present the theme of sustainable development and responsibility. The terrace furniture was designed exclusively for the Terrace at Three Smiths Square.
Designer Essi Ilola from Mozo design agency states that UPM ProFi was selected because the material conforms well to the terrace theme, being recyclable and manufactured mostly from recycled raw material. UPM ProFi is hardwearing , has high resistance to UV rays and being splinter free and soft to touch the material meets the terrace furniture requirements. Ilola adds that the easy workability of UPM ProFi composite was an advantage. You can work the material with traditional woodworking tools.
The Terrace furniture at Three Smiths Square has Stone Grey UPM ProFi Cover Strip on the chair seats and backs. The Cover Strips are strengthened with steel plates and together with black metal tubes used on the chair structure they create a light and elegant impression. The bench seating surrounding the whole terrace area is made of Stone Grey UPM ProFi Deck and Rail Step. The seating is designed to accommodate 148 customers. Stylish furniture combined with urban greenery on the terrace create a cosy oasis in the middle of the buzzing design capital.
